My First Girl. She's Four.

Every once in a while, when you're really tired, or really excited, or especially whiny, I can look into those beautiful blue eyes of yours and see the face of that little bitty baby you used to be.

So much about you is different today than it was back then, yet so much is still the same, too.  You are, without a doubt, the most stubborn child I have ever parented.  You always have been and I'm pretty sure you always will be.  You know what it is that you want and you refuse to accept anything less.  God bless the man who marries you. :)

You are unbelievably smart and wickedly funny.  When you're in the mood, you can be the life of the party; you're not one to shy away from attention.  You're also pretty good at playing hard-to-get, though, and aren't afraid to make those around you work for your affection.

You are becoming kind.  The birth of your little sister has brought forth a sweetness in you that didn't exhibit itself as often before Emmy was born.  And while you and Harris still have your fair share of arguments (mostly about the boring-ness of princesses and Power Rangers), the two of you continue to form a bond that will be impossible to break one day.

You love all things related to princesses, horses, and elephants.  Lipstick, nail polish, high heels, and dresses are favorites, and your imagination has skyrocketed over the last year.  You narrate all of your play, quite often in song, and your temper flares if you think Daddy or me have been eavesdropping.  You're not afraid to give us the cold shoulder if we've hurt your feelings, but you'll also shower us with snuggles and smiles when you're feeling the love.  You've just recently stopped wearing a pull-up at night and are giving up all sippy cups for your fourth birthday.

You question everything.  Absolutely everything.

And you are beautiful.

Happy Fourth Birthday, Babe.
